Now with the front clip off the truck and the motor pulled it was then time to now pull the doors off and send those parts off to the blaster to get stripped to bare metal.

Right after blasting and before primer.

While getting the metal primed to prevent surface rust, turned my attention then to the motor and giving it a make over. The engine is the one that came with the truck and was a fresh rebuilt motor as the truck was an original 292 I6 truck. The block is a 74 truck 350 block. I didn’t pull the pan, but I would bet its a 4 bolt main being a truck motor. I lucked out on the heads as the casting numbers came up as 71 Z28 heads. I swapped the cast iron intake for an 69/70 Z/28 intake. I had originally put an old Edelbrock intake on it, but realized it didn’t have mosses for a coil mount and had some casting flaws.

In part 6 the project will hit that point where it deviates from the plan.

When you said 69 Z/28 intake I was kind of hoping to see a Crossram...

Very cool project, though. You’ve put in a lot of work and it shows. Cant wait to see it all come together!

If I had a cross ram setup it would be going on my 68 Camaro, lol. The bottom end of that engine could handle that setup. I bet this truck is full of cast parts and low compression. It ran really good, but cast iron intake was a late 70s junk intake and I had this one ready to go.

Very cool to see all the work going into this! If you are looking at fuel systems, I can’t recommend the Holley Sniper enough. I have a guy remote tuning my mine and the results are staggering. I had a holley street demon on it before and it was very nice and easy to tune. Plus it stayed in tune, which was not my experience with Edelbrock. I tuned the Street Demon myself and then took it to a race car mechanic friend and he dialed things in. It ran well and was fun. The sniper efi makes it feel like a different engine. Smooth, powerful, no stumbles, easy starts and the mileage is right now at about 14.5 mpg. That’s up from 9mpg with the carb. I’m only halfway done with through with tuning so it will only get better.

Keep the updates coming! It's awesome to see.

I am sticking with the edelbrock carb, its nearly brand new and ran great on the motor, never had to hook the choke up. W ith these C10's, you almost have to move the tank out of the cab to the rear for EFI. I don’t really want to move the tank at the moment.

Why does the tank need to move? Not enough room for the sender? Or is the pump too loud?

It mainly has to do with how the tanks are shaped in general, even aftermarket tank shops wont make in cab efi tanks. You mainly cant put a sump at the bottom for gas to pool like on most car tanks. A few guys on C10 forums have messed with the tanks but most had issues with keeping good pressure driving around.
